Harris did what she needed to do. When a journalist’s “incisive questions” parrot the talking points of their subject’s opponents, they don’t warrant a straight answer. We are seeing some really questionable legacy media behavior in this election cycle. My journalism profs are spinning in their graves.

As a psychologist, I would love the opportunity to conduct a mental status exam on Trump. Giving his ranting, he would fit right in on an inpatient psychiatric ward and likely would be out on medication. Anyway you cut it, he is an extremely deranged individual.

I grew up in South Texas, the heart of the petrochemical industry. The smells of the area linger in your memory, and swimming in the Gulf of Mexico leaves your skin stinging. Chemicals quietly seep from the stacks, sending near-invisible clouds of sickness into the air, day and night. You can catch the scent of sulfur even with your car windows up as you drive down I-10. I often wonder where the birds have gone in that part of the state.

I worked on a documentary about wind power a few years ago in Montana. I stood at the top of one, and all I could sense was fresh air and a cool breeze. I never saw dead birds from the turbines quietly spinning in the air to generate power. I suppose it does happen. Everything is a tradeoff. I’ll take the wind.

Rex, if you have a moment, can you email me personally? I've been writing on Facebook for months now, as you might or might not have noticed, and many friends have suggested I establish a substack account and include my thoughts there. But I established it under a name I don't particularly like and have changed, but the initial name keeps popping up in the url connected to my commentary and I want to change that. But they don't say how to do that? You have any idea?
