I look forward to your column every week, in large part because you always deal with the underlying causes of what ails our country as opposed to just the symptoms. Further, I am deeply disturbed by the decline of outlets for print journalism that we are currently experiencing. I have to wonder how many among our children and grandchildren have never even read a printed newspaper. I would think that especially our younger children are even more vulnerable to the superficial marketing that is everywhere to be found. Our kids are not only bright, but intuitive. I hope that with democracy at stake, that we can urge our children to become effective consumers of what they should read and what they should ignore.

Our democratic system is designed to move slowly - like 18th century speed. It is being overwhelmed by 21st century technology and the human tendency to want things easily digested mentally.
